At last week’s Sweet Sounds of Summer camp, campers enjoyed an exciting and well-rounded musical experience under the instruction of music teacher, Mrs. Heather Huisman. The campers learned about musical theory and form through a variety of unique, engaging and fun activities conforming to the National Association for Music and/or the Ontario Curriculum for the Arts. Each day they also learned about different composers and had the opportunity to try out a number of different musical instruments and styles.
All of this hard work led up to our Sweet Sounds of Summer Showcase on Friday afternoon to which we invited the campers’ friends and families. The girls wowed the audience with a handbell rendition of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, an Orff instrument ensemble, a drum stick rendition of J.S. Bach’s Italian concerto, Presto, several piano solos and a number of beautiful chorale and solo vocal pieces. They sure are a talented bunch!
We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs. Huisman for coming in and running such a dynamic and exciting music program with the girls last week!
