HALF DAY: 9 A.M. – 12 NOON
For students entering Grades 3 – 5 in September 2017
Instructor: Carolyn Wakeham
This intensive and engaging expository writing program, taught by one of Elmwood’s talented instructors, will develop each student’s skills and confidence in the following areas:
• Research skills, note taking and fact checking
• Organization of information
• Clear sentence and paragraph structure
• Report format, drafting and proof-reading techniques
• Effective communication of the finished report
This camp offers personalized instruction, using each participant’s stage of development as the starting point. Participants will research a particular animal of interest while learning about the important expository writing process. Morning sessions will focus on clear, effective writing, note taking, formatting, editing and fact checking. As your daughter grows in confidence, so will her passion for learning, especially in Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. In addition to each participant’s completed research report, at the end of the week families will receive a final progress report and skill-builder package to keep budding writers motivated all summer long!
★ Looking for a full-day camp experience? Campers attending this half-day camp can also attend this week’s Discovery Camp “NASA Science Camp” daily from noon to 4:30 p.m. for an additional $110.
